upgrading a bad drive

3 09 2007

Since my desktop’s HD was acting up, I decided to upgrade this Labor Day weekend. Friday I picked-up a Maxtor 320GB drive to replace the 160GB (about 75% full). The drive was on special, normally $109.99 but now… $59.99! It came with a HD utility software which also helps with cloning the old drive. Since I regularly back-up anyway and normally I would just reinstall the OS, my programs and all those MP3s and pictures in about 5hrs. After reading some reviews about the program (MaxBlast), I decided to have it clone the old drive over to new. I started the process at about 730AM, Sunday and it finished at… 10PM that night. When it was done, a any-key shutdown, removed the old drive, reboot and that was it. Everything was there! Even restore points from the old drive. Sure it took awhile, OK, a long time but it saved me my last user license for my MS Office suite.
