My wife was sent to Vegas for a business conference and I was able to tag along. Uniphise were very organizing in getting to the hotel (Bellagio). A total of 3 handlers passed us along at the airport to guide us to their shuttles. Our flight was 30mins late taking off and then the bags from the flight didn’t get to the carsouel for another 30mins after we landed.
Our first night’s dinner we went to Bellagio’s Micheal Mina. I had the Signature Lobster Pot Pie with about 1.5lbs of Lobster ($78-yikes and not on her dinner credit) and she had the Trio of Lamb Medallions ($50). A half bottle of Pinot ($47) plus tip didn’t quite put us into the outrageous dinner range since we didn’t have appetitzers. Both dishes we excellent but it took 30+ mins for our dinners to come because of the lobster. The menu nor our server didn’t warn us of this delay and we left sitting there the whole time wondering.
Day two consisted of my trying to find a BofA ATM. I looked up some locations with the phonebook. (didn’t have in room web acess yet. $10.95 per day per laptop). After a few inept local knowledge of the block numbers, I called my friend back in SF and asked him to look up the nearest ATM. Caesar’s Place Forum. 15mins walk in the 95 heat and there. A little looking around and I found it. Back to the hotel (1030Am) and down to the pool for some sun. I was there for an hour and the 1st half hr one guy was chatting on his cell. Then after he finished, another guy started talking for the next half hour. During that time, he made 7-8 calls! After that, back up to the room (no made) so I walked over to Fashion Show mall and the the Wynn. Later that evening I was invited to cocktails and a award/dinner show courtesy of Uniprise. They did an Oscar theme for the awards. Thankfully no long speeches. The show was “Songs of the Cinema” with Nia Peeples. Our table was the loudest in cheering/hooting the singers during Risky Business and SN Fever.
Day 3, down to the pool at 9am. Hmm, getting full in the sunny spots. Found a corner but there’s a guy on his cell again. Grrr, just ignore it. Fortunately, he was off it quickly and never got back on. That night, we took a cab over to the Wynn hotel ($8) for our dinner at Daniel Boulud’s Brasserie. We got there and after walking around alittle we checked to see if we could be seated early. Fortunately we were acommodated at 8 instead of our 830PM reservation. My wife had oysters (3 East and 3 West coasts) and the Duck Confit. I started with Steak Tartare and then the Pan-fried Tuna steak. Both were very good but not quite WOW. We managed to escape for less than Michael Mina despite adding 2 appetizers and a whole bottle of wine.
Coming home, the bags from our flight again took 30mins to start showing up on the carousel after we de-planed.
All in all, a fun trip.
